Teeth whitening is a safe procedure that can lighten stained or discoloured teeth.
Tobacco, coffee, tea, alcohol, food additives, some developmental blemishes and natural aging all contribute to the discolouring and yellowing of teeth.
While a professional dental clean can remove some staining, Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental treatment that can provide patients with great results that whiten the colour of teeth which have discoloured over time. Teeth whitening, if maintained correctly, can leave you with results that last. As teeth whitening agents have varying levels of peroxide in them, all procedures should only be carried out by qualified dentists who use a clinically proven cosmetic dental treatment.
It is important to floss at least once a day because food and bacterial plaque can settle in between your teeth which can cause tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath (Halitosis). Even if your teeth look clean on the surface after brushing, plaque/tartar can build up in-between your teeth and can cause gingivitis which can lead to periodontal disease later in life. If you are not flossing regularly your gums are more likely to bleed.
Next time, when you visit your Dentist for your (6 monthly Check ups) ask them to show you how to floss properly.
Make flossing part of your oral hygiene regime.
You should be flossing at least once a day.
Ask your dentist to demonstrate the correct flossing technique. Flossing Instructions
Ask your dentist if inter-dental aids will complement your flossing.
Your children should start flossing too, start as soon as your child has two teeth that touch.
What is the best time to clean between your teeth- before or after brushing?
It does not matter when you do it. Choose a time of the day when you can spare a couple of minutes for flossing. Brushing your teeth with a fluoride toothpaste and then flossing is what our dentists recommend. Children need to clean between their teeth too, start as soon as your child has two teeth that touch. Because cleaning between teeth demands more manual dexterity than very young children have, children are not usually able to do a thorough job on their own until age 10 or 11

What happens at your Regular dental checkup visit?
During your thorough dental check-up appointment at Heritage Dental Group in Indooroopilly, our dentist will evaluate the health of your gums, perform a head and neck examination (to look for anything out of the ordinary). Dentist will also examine your mouth for any indications of gum disease, oral cancer, diabetes or vitamin deficiencies. Don’t be surprised if dentist examines your face, bite, saliva and movement of your lower jaw joints (TMJs). Our experienced dentist will then clean your teeth and stress the importance of you maintaining good oral hygiene at home between visits. Flossing advice and importance.

Kids sometimes feel nervous when it comes to visiting a dentist. At Heritage Dental Group, our team strives to make your child’s dental visit as fun and educating as possible.
The most important thing with kids oral health and dental visits is to start early. Be it is seeing a Dentist or getting into the routine of proper brushing and flossing techniques. As soon as your baby’s first teeth erupt, schedule an appointment with your dentist. This is the perfect time for you and your child to get to know your dentist and start on early brushing and oral hygiene habits. Make sure you watch your kids brush and floss and talk to them about good oral hygiene. Once they start reading, get them some interesting books about dentists and the benefits of proper brushing and flossing.
It is extremely important to keep an eye on your kids brushing techniques to make sure they brushing all the teeth, not just the front and reaching all the way to the back molars. Introducing flossing is also important to prevent decay in between teeth. We know, it is not easy for kids to floss but as parents and dental professionals, we should always reinforce the importance of flossing, by showing them proper technique.
Keep your teeth cavity-free and your smile shiny bright this spring!
Spring is the season for new beginnings and fresh starts. Are you busy in spring cleaning? We spring clean our lives and living spaces, but how many of us spring clean our teeth?
Our team at Heritage Dental Group Indooroopilly would like to share three tips to help you refresh your oral hygiene routine and spring clean your teeth this season.
1. Replace your toothbrush (or electric brush head)
Take a moment to consider how long you’ve had your current toothbrush. Was there holiday music playing on the radio and a tree in your living room at the time? According to the Australian Dental Association, you should change your toothbrush every 3-4 months. When bristles are frayed or worn out, they aren’t able to clean teeth as effectively. So if you’ve had your toothbrush since winter, we highly recommend getting a brand new one for the new season.
2. Restock on supplies
As you organize and take inventory of your cleaning supplies this spring, don’t forget to replenish your oral cleaning supplies as well. Items such as floss, mouthwash, and toothbrushes are great to have stocked up for guests or travelling. Consider purchasing extra floss or a toothbrush to leave in your purse or vehicle in case of emergencies.
3. Schedule a professional teeth cleaning
Be sure to add a trip to Heritage Dental Group in Indooroopilly on your list of to-dos! Just like how our homes need a deep scrub, we recommend coming in for a check-up and a professional teeth cleaning at least twice a year. This season is a great time to schedule an appointment since we’re already in cleaning mode. What better way to prepare for a spring than with a healthy, pearly smile?
To schedule an appointment with us at Heritage Dental Group for your spring teeth cleaning or any other dental care need, please get on touch with us on 07 38783384. We look forward to seeing you!
