Looking after your teeth during Holidays

How to look after your teeth during Christmas New Year Holiday Break?

Christmas Holiday Break

With the end of 2022 approaching fast, busy festive time of the year is here again. Time of the year when our teeth get exposed to sweet, acidic foods and drinks. Large amounts of sweet foods and drinks along with bacteria in the mouth produce acids which weakens your enamel and cause cavities. Tooth decay can develop in-between teeth in a very short time if food debris get stuck in-between teeth and left there for long time. Look after your oral health and enjoy the Christmas New year break with smile!

During this busy time, we sometimes tend to ignore our oral health. Looking after your teeth and gum health is important as the last thing you want is toothache during holidays. Most of the dentists take annual holiday break during this time and you can end up looking for a dentist and spending a fortune. We have put together some tips below to keep your oral health on track.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR TEETH DURING HOLIDAYS

REGULAR DENTAL CHECK-UP

Have your regular dental check-up sorted before Christmas break. Your dentist will check all your teeth gums and health of your mouth, if there are any problems starting, he will advise you to take precautions or fix it. If you have any dental work pending, get it done before it starts giving you any trouble. Don’t leave till it hurts.

GOOD ORAL HYGIENE

Follow your oral hygiene routine diligently. Brush twice a day, clean in-between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash. Clean your tongue regularly.

SNACK SMART

Avoid hard sticky candies and candied nuts. Use sweet treats and drinks in moderation. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables for snacks. Limit highly processed foods and snacks. Keep an eye on hidden sugars in packed foods and drinks.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Choose water to hydrate. Remember to rinse your mouth after having sweet acidic drinks and foods. Limit the intake of sweet acidic drinks.

DO NOT USE YOUR TEETH AS A TOOL

Try not to open any gifts, bottles with your teeth.

WEAR A MOUTHGUARD

Wear a mouth guard while playing any contact sports. You should wear your mouth guard for training as well. If you do martial arts or boxing, consider wearing a mouth guard.
