Do you want a whiter and brighter smile? Heritage Dental Group can help.

WHITER BRIGHTER SMILE

Have you always wanted a whiter brighter smile? Teeth whitening procedures are common in modern dentistry, and have grown in popularity over recent years. This is due to advancements in dental technology that enable patients to more easily achieve significant cosmetic improvements in the colour of their teeth, and to the increased affordability of a number of effective whitening products.

Heritage Dental Group’s whitening procedures are safe, and aren’t associated with any health risks, because we are experienced in cosmetic dentistry, and because we undertake a comprehensive assessment of your individual needs and health risks: we will determine if you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening, prior to commencing treatment. Our whitening procedures are done at home for your convenience, but we will first provide you with a thorough plan to help you through the process.

What is teeth whiteningbtn-02?

Teeth whitening lightens the colour of your teeth, and removes staining caused by lifestyle factors including smoking
and drinking coffee, and genetic factors including aging. At Heritage Dental Group, we have a number of effective teeth whitening products available that can greatly improve the appearance of your smile, without altering or removing the surface of your teeth.

Most teeth whitening products involve applying gels to your teeth, which contain specific concentrations of bleaching agents like hydrogen peroxide, to penetrate the enamel of the teeth and whiten the stains. Over-the-counter whitening products generally involve using ineffective concentrations of active whitening ingredients, ill-fitting mouth trays that leak, and substances that are abrasive and cause damage to your gums and tooth enamel. This is why Heritage Dental Group offers a combination of in-office and at-home treatments, which are tailored to your unique needs, and involve custom-fitting a dental tray to use with the most appropriate and effective whitening product for your teeth.

We have the qualifications and expertise to assess the health of your teeth and gums, to help you understand the results you can expect from your individual treatment, and to recommend appropriate whitening treatments to safely and comfortably restore the brightness of your smile. At Heritage Dental Group, we will provide you with a proper schedule to follow as you continue the process at home, and expert advice on improving your dental care and lifestyle choices, so you can get the maximum benefit from your whitening treatment.

How we assess your teeth?

Your genes affect the thickness and colour of the enamel on your teeth and the dentin underneath it, and whether or not certain whitening products are suitable for you to use.  This is why our experienced dentists at Heritage Dental Group will thoroughly assess your dental health before we commence any teeth whitening procedure. In this important examination, we will look at:

  • The strength and thickness of the enamel on your teeth, and the dentin underneath it
  • The health of your gums, and any receding of the gumline
  • The structure of your teeth, including fillings, crowns or veneers, and areas of decay
  • The sensitivity of your teeth

Whitening procedures are most effective on surface staining on your teeth, and may not be suitable for addressing staining on the inside of your teeth caused by factors like antibiotic use. Once we have determined that our teeth whitening treatments are an appropriate and safe option for you, we will discuss costs, a schedule for treatment and maintenance, and the results you may expect to see.

How we whiten your teeth?

During your visit, we will thoroughly scale and clean your teeth to remove the calculus and other substances that cause staining; sometimes, this can noticeably improve the appearance of your teeth, and it also increases the chances of a successful whitening process. We will then take an impression of your teeth in order to prepare a customised mouth tray that will fit you perfectly, which is essential for ensuring that the whitening gel does not leak, and that your gums are protected. We might also photograph your teeth, to gauge the effectiveness of your whitening treatment.

Some of our procedures will involve having treatment with us in our office, and some involve taking your whitening products with you to use in the privacy of your home. We may apply a protective substance to your gums, before placing whitening gel in your mouth tray, and placing it over your teeth. You will usually wear the mouth tray for around 2 hours a day. We will advise you on foods and drinks to avoid in the 24 hours following treatment, in order to prevent re-staining of your teeth.

Significant results can usually be seen within two weeks, but you might even notice a substantial improvement after one treatment in the office. The length of time necessary for effective results will be determined by how severely your teeth are stained, and what types of stains they are, as different stains will respond differently to the treatment. The effects of our treatments can last for several years, but in some cases the procedure may need to be repeated at regular intervals to maintain the whiteness of your teeth.

Call Heritage Dental Group any time to book an appointment, and we will advise you on the best whitening treatments, maintenance procedures, and lifestyle changes for you, so you can enjoy a dazzling new smile.
